PENANG, Dec 18 (Bernama) — The newly- launched Effective Micro-Organism (EM) technology would help lessen water pollution and preserve the state’s environment, said state local government, traffic management and environment committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow.He said the EM technology from Japan was adopted by Hunza Properties Berhad group and FIABCI Penang branch under the Penang Government Initiative for Environment Management (PGI-EM).
Chow hoped business corporations and society would join forces in this aspect as Japan’s success in cleaning up more than 100 rivers and luring fishes and all aquartic life back, was mainly due to community efforts.
He said this in his speech during the launch of EM-1 at Hunza Paragon here Wednesday.
He said to date, there had been three committee meetings and programmes, adding that a few polluted rivers had been inspected.
Chow added that technical advisors T. Sawada and Nishioka Masahiro, who both EM experts from Japan, were currently residing in the state to liaise with the committee.
The state government, he said, wanted to keep the state clean again and turn Penang into an international city to lure investors and tourists.
