In celebrating the upcoming second anniversary of George Town’s listing on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, Persatuan Gaya Hidup Berbasikal Pulau Pinang (PCLS) will be organizing a heritage bicycle ride and a children’s drawing and colouring contest at New World Park on 27th June 2010 (Sunday). Themed ‘Cycling Through George Town’, this event is to encourage bicycling activities and to instil more awareness on George Town’s heritage sites especially in children.

The heritage bicycle ride will be flagged off from New World Park by Y.B. Pn. Lydia Ong Kok Fooi, Y.B. Tn. Chow Kon Yeow, Y.B. Tn. Teh Yee Cheu & Mr. Clarence Tan, Senior Manager of PPB Group Berhad at 8.00 am and is expected to arrive back at New World Park at 9.30 am. The route will include a few stopovers at some heritage sites in George Town. Owners of vintage bicycles are strongly encouraged to join this special event. For those would like to join in the ride in a more leisurely way, trishaws are available for rent at a nominal fee.

On the same day, there will be a drawing and coloring contest for children aged seven to nine (Group A) and 10 to 12 (Group B) which will take place from 10.00 am – 1.00 pm. For a registration fee of RM 10.00, each participant will be given a door gift and an A2 sized paper to create their artwork. Their artwork must be based on the aforementioned theme and include bicycling activities at any heritage spots covered during the heritage bicycle ride. The children who take part in the drawing and colouring contest will be given an additional mark of 20% during judging of their artwork if they take part in the heritage trishaw/bicycle ride as well. A ‘passport’ will be given to them to ensure they complete the route. All participants will get a certificate of participation each.

The best artwork creators from both groups will walk away with:-

1st Prize: RM 300.00 Cash + RM 200.00 Hamper + Trophy + Certificate
2nd Prize: RM 200.00 Cash + RM 150.00 Hamper + Trophy + Certificate
3rd Prize: RM 100.00 Cash + RM 100.00 Hamper + Trophy + Certificate
Consolation (X 10): One (1) carton of drinks + Trophy + Certificate
