MOTORISTS have to pay one hour more for parking at four roads in Penang effective today.

The parking collection time at Gurney Drive, the service road in front of Sunrise Tower, the service road beside Kelawei Road (along Kelawei Road) and Lim Chin Guan Road is now from 9am to midnight and not from 9am to 5pm as reported on Saturday.

The collection hours were previously from 10am to midnight before it was revised by the Penang Municipal Council.

The four roads were among 15 roads where parking hours were extended to midnight in January.

On January 25, Local Government, Traffic Management and Environment Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the extended hours, which were enforced at four tourist hotspots, was to prevent illegal parking attendants from operating.

He had said the roads were located around the Gurney Drive beachfront, New World Park food court, Upper Penang Road and the Esplanade.
