IN conjunction with Mother’s Day, there will be ‘A Tribute to Working Mothers’ celebration at the Caring Society Complex in Penang from 2pm to 5.30pm this Sunday.
The event, organised by the National Autism Society of Malaysia (Nasom) Penang and the Sim Children & Child Heart Clinic, is endorsed by the state government.
State Youth, Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi told a recent press conference that the guest of honour would be Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s wife Betty Chew.
Ong said the programme would include a cake cutting ceremony, a power-point presentation by Nasom, a mini concert, light refreshments, and several talks followed by a panel discussion.
The topics of the talks are Statistics of Women Workforce, Family Dynamics of Working Parents, Problems Faced by Working Mothers, Balancing Work and Family, Why I Quit Working, How Effective Are Our Laws in Protecting Working Mothers and Can Fathers Help Working Mothers?
The guest speakers include Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng, Penang Hospital’s child psychiatrist Dr Lai Fong Hwa, and representatives from the Federation of Women Lawyers, National Council of Women’s Organisations, the corporate sector and a housewife.
